“Light Emitting Iodine”, as we know it, can be described as a light-emitting electronic circuit element. LEDs used in almost every field where light touches our lives today were first invented in the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in the 1920s. However, it entered the world market for the first time in the 1960s with the United States 40 years after its invention.

In the 1960s, American scientist Nick Holonyak produces red-colored LEDs. Other colors also join the team within 10 years following the production of the red LED. With the developing technology and techniques between 1970 and 1990, orange, yellow, blue, and green colored LEDs are introduced to the market. Changes and innovations are of course not limited to these. Almost every day a new step is taken in LED lighting. In the 1990s, white LEDs were produced for the first time.

Despite the path taken in LED lighting, an adequate product that can actually be used for “lighting” purposes cannot be obtained. When we came to the beginning of the 2000s, with the developing technologies, LED lighting solutions started to be used along with traditional lighting solutions. Today, we encounter LED lighting in street lighting, in our homes, factories, television, and telephone lighting, in the automotive, aircraft, and ship industries, that is, in all areas of our lives.

What are the Features of LED Lighting?

LEDs are semiconductor materials whose main materials are silicon. They are designed to provide light at different angles. It provides illumination by revealing the photon as current flows through it. High current is not a problem for LED lighting. Because a current limiting resistor is connected to the LEDs to avoid damage from high current. This is a very important step in terms of security.

Why Has It Become Preferred Instead Of Traditional Lighting?

So why did LED lighting, which entered our lives in the 1960s, be preferred to traditional lighting? One of the biggest advantages of LED lighting is that it is long-lasting and durable than traditional lighting. It is extremely common to use it for higher efficiency at less cost. LEDs provide low power consumption. Being environmentally friendly is another advantage over traditional lighting. LEDs do not contain mercury and do not contain harmful gases. With these features, they are healthier than traditional lighting solutions for the environment. There is no danger of burns or bumps during touch. Aesthetics has become one of the requirements of the modern world. At this point, LED lighting comes into play again. It is now possible to illuminate wherever you want, as you wish, thanks to LED lighting. You can now put aside your aesthetic concerns in lighting.
